The new documentary film “Tane Voivodata” explores the life and work of Bulgarian revolutionary Tane Nikolov who played an important role in Bulgarian history in the beginning of the 20th century. His story was covered up shortly after the communist coup in 1944 and has been forgotten to this day. Tane Nikolov spent several decades in endless revolutionary struggles from Western Thrace to Macedonia and Pomoravie. He fought in the Ilinden-Preobrazhenie uprising, the Balkan Wars, and the First World War. With his armed unit, he took part in the famous battle on Mount Nozhot in 1907, which received extremely wide coverage in Bulgarian and international media at the time. After ending his active revolutionary work, he became known for his charity, until his life’s tragic end in 1947.
The film shows thirty-five locations in three countries, more than three hundred restored photographs from Bulgarian archives and museums, as well as restored footage from the Bulgarian National Film library. The score includes traditional folklore music performed by the internationally recognized “Zornitsa” Orchestra, as well as music composed for the film and performed by the Representative Chamber Group of the Academy of Music, Dance and Visual Arts “Prof. Asen Diamandiev” – Plovdiv.
