Markéta Ledererová (1915-1987) fled from the expanding Nazism in Czechoslovakia in 1939 and settled in the Netherlands, where she started a family during World War II; her escape story and unknown Jewish origins prompted a daughter and two granddaughters to embark on an investigative quest spanning the Netherlands, Germany, the Czech Republic and Israel decades after her passing.
That quest is captured in this documentary film, which takes the viewer through a voyage of discovery, loss and gain.

Director Statement
In this documentary film, a daughter and two granddaughters from the Netherlands investigate the past of their Czechoslovak-Jewish mother and grandmother who came from Prague in 1939 to escape the expanding Nazi Germany on the eve of World War II. While searching for answers, their quest leads them to interesting locations in the Netherlands, Germany, the Czech Republic and Israel.
The film is about family history, Eastern European history and Jewish history, but ultimately shows how important it is for descendants to know what happened in the past of their ancestor who was a victim of persecution; answers help to tie up loose ends and close a story, one that has been hid to the family for decades.
