How do you get pupils to engage with one of the darkest chapters in German history? How do you create points of contact with a place whose horror is no longer immediately apparent today? How do you draw attention to the legacy of a prisoner who did everything in his power to ensure that his testimony would not be forgotten?
The horror of the Dachau concentration camp and its perfidious system are made tangible to the target group by using a concrete biography rendered through a medium closer to them: a graphic novel and an adaptation as animation. The story, based on the records of prisoner Edgar Kupfer-Koberwitz, who wrote down his experience in two diaries, is a combination of faithful historical reconstruction and fictional storytelling.
